Monique Meijer Representing Team Bonaire

On any given day when the winds are up, one can see a determined sailor flying across the water training in the clear blue waters of Lac Bay. This rider is tall and slender but possess a strength and force obvious from her stance and posture. She also happens to be one of Bonaire’s premier female shredders. Her name is Monique Meijer, NB 28, competing in July at the IFCA Slalom Event.

Monique who hails from the Netherlands, calls Bonaire home now. She moved here in 2006 after a few windsurf sessions on Sunny Beach in Bulgaria. She got bitten by the windsurf bug and kept at it after her move to Bonaire. Monique is a physical education instructor at the country’s high school. She has stamina and drive. She is also a kind an friendly young woman. Her training schedule is daily if time and wind allows. She trains extensively with former Olympian Constantine “Patun” Saragoza. Monique also is a mentor at the local kids windsurf club, Aquaspeed where she helps the local kids get out on the water and sail. Here are her latest results and races. Best of luck Monique.
